In Norse mythology Týr (the Norse god of war, whose primary role was to uphold law and justice) sacrifices his hand to trap Loki’s ferocious offspring Fenrir, the giant wolf, who bites off his hand while the gods bind the animal.Tyr’s legacy once known as ‘Tyr’s day’, is the word ‘Tuesday.’ The piece is created entirely by hand, an amalgam of reclaimed material fragments & paints and is part of a series of artworks created for the Celestials collection. Celestial is a term referring to heavenly bodies such as stars, constellations, and planets, named after mythical deities & creatures. Since ancient times the names of celestial bodies have been passed on with their myths and are still with us today. From the Latin word ‘caelestis’ sky.
