Messenger Pidgeon
Volatiles collection. Wall Art Sculpture. Since ancient times pidgeons have been used to deliver special messages, news and secrets flying long distances over mountains and seas. I am fascinated by the shapes of our feathered friends in flight, soaring, gliding & diving with the wind. The pigeon is created entirely by hand, with each feather made from a mix of reclaimed textiles, fragments from maps and airmail envelopes. This piece is part of a series of birds created for the Volatiles collection. Four centuries ago, volatile was a general term referring to birds or other flying creatures such as butterflies. Definition of the word ‘volatile’: “a winged animal.” Samuel Johnson’s A Dictionary of the English Language, 1755. Mixed Media on Wood: Reclaimed Materials, Textiles, Fragments From Maps & Airmail Envelopes, Paint. Designed to be displayed on a wall. Ready to Hang. Size:35 W x 43 H x 3.5 D cm
